If you go into any Asian grocery store in America and find the candy isle, you will often find some really interesting things. Specifically, some really unique flavors of potato chips. Well, of course in Japan they have a lot more interesting flavors. So, I went to my local drug store and had a grand ol' time documenting the various kinds of potato chips I could find.
Next we have Wasabiifu! Or, wasabi beef! Gotta love those meat flavored chips!
This one says Rich Consommé. The note in the bottom right says it also includes potato! No kidding.
This one is Kyushu Umakuchi Shoyu flavor. It's a special soy sauce flavor from Kyushu! So a local flavor, nice nice.
This one is just called Happy Butter! You'll find that buttered potato is a very common flavor. But this one makes you HAPPY.
And of course, Pizza Potato! I think this one is pretty self explanatory. The bottom right tells us it has both cheese and other topping flavors!
This next bag is called Full-bodied Chicken Consommé. More consommé, and who would have thought?
This one came in two flavors. It's called Summer Potato! One was just a light salt flavor, but this one has umeboshi, or pickled plum.
This one says Mentai Mayo Beef! Mentai Mayo is a spicy fish egg and mayonnaise combination. The words underneath say Thick Mentai Mayo and Beef Flavor. Gotta wonder what that tastes like....
And here's the last one, and the one I actually bought. It says Suppa Muucho with Umebosh. Now suppa means sour, but I'm not actually quite sure what the muucho means.... so this is probably some kind of sour pickled plum flavor. LOOKS GOOD RIGHT? Well, I actually think it's delicious... It tastes like a less harsh version of salt and vinegar chips. I better stop before I eat the whole bag....
Here are just some more flavors I've found in stores.
